Why we love facials…

It’s officially the Christmas party season, however all that cold weather and over indulging on food and alcohol can really take it’s toll on your skin. Our master therapist, Erin, from our Wimbledon spa recommends regular facials to help rehydrate and brighten up your skin.

What are the benefits of having regular facials?

While your skin needs your attention on a daily basis, it is very important to receive regular intensive treatments from a professional.  Your beauty therapist can constantly assess and treat your skin’s condition, while ensuring that you are educated on everything you need to know to maintain glowing healthy skin.

Your skin is constantly shedding itself, and every 28 – 30 days you literally have a whole new skin surface, giving your beauty therapist a fresh canvas to cleanse, steam, massage, nourish and plump with nutrients that will keep your skin looking and feeling vibrant and fresh.

How often would you recommend having a facial?

Every 4 weeks is ideal. I will always suggest a skincare regime and products which guests can use in between visits to really maximize the benefits of the facial.

Why is it a good idea to use products recommended by your therapist in between facials?

A facial is a wonderful relaxing treat which will make your skin feel alive and healthier than ever. You will feel like floating after the plethora of benefits to mind, body, and soul received during the time spent in your therapist’s care. Using the skincare products she recommends after the treatment will only help to enhance your skin on a daily basis, extending the results and benefits of your facial through the month. Over-the-counter products could potentially undo all of the good work you just received from the loving hands of your beauty therapist. The products you use at home are a long-term investment in the health of your skin.

At Gina Conway Aveda we offer a range of customised facials designed to suit your individual skin type using plant essences and aromatherapy oils to leave you with beautiful radiant skin. For more information please contact your nearest Gina Conway Aveda salon and spa.

Mum & Baby Coffee Mornings

A big thank you to everyone who came along to our Baby Clothes Swishing morning on Tuesday and for helping us raise over £200 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the Jigsaw4U Children’s Charity.

We had some fabulous (and very very cute!) baby clothes, shoes and toys donated and with most items being snapped up for as little as £1 each everyone came away with some fantastic bargains. Baby clothes swishing really is the new eco-friendly and budget conscious way to shop!

While mums browsed through rails of clothes and piles of toys and shoes, babies slept peacefully in buggies and toddlers were kept occupied in the special children’s play area.  Guests drank coffee and Aveda tea while munching on cakes and delicious croissants donated by the Jitterbugs café in Wimbledon.

The baby clothes swishing event was the perfect opportunity to launch our new mum and baby coffee mornings which will take place every Monday and Tuesday morning. Book in for a cut and colour and sit back and be pampered with one of our talented stylists while your little one plays in our special kids area.  For more information please ask at reception or email pr@ginaconway.co.uk

Skip Cathey visits Gina Conway

A couple of weeks ago the legendary Skip Cathey, from top US salon DiPietro Todd, flew in from sunny California and during his UK trip he visited our Wimbledon salon and spa to teach a creative technical education class to our team of skilled stylists.

The DiPietro Todd Academy in San Francisco specialises in revisiting traditional techniques with ultra-modern approaches and Skip himself is an expert at demonstrating innovative cutting and styling techniques using live demos and hands-on seminars to make his classes more interesting and interactive.

It was a fantastic class and we’d like to say a big thank you to Skip for coming to visit us and for sharing some of his intense passion and skill with the Gina Conway team.

The Wimbledon Fair

Despite rain, wind and some very dark storm clouds, the Gina Conway team braved the weather last Saturday to once again venture up to Wimbledon Common to set up a stand at the annual Wimbledon Fair.

With over 200 different stalls, a farmers market, horse show, bouncy castle and a variety of fairground rides the Wimbledon Fair is a great day out for all the family, attracting both adults and kids alike.

Amongst the chaos, our talented team of therapists set up a tranquil oasis in the middle of the common offering guests stress relieving massages with Aveda aromatic oils, pampering hand and arm massages and shape and paint manicures. Most guests chose bright tropical coloured nails to fit in with this summer’s bright and bold trend and also to add some colour to a dull rainy Saturday!

Look out for us next year at the Wimbledon Fair and come visit our luxurious spa in Wimbledon to experience one of our signature manicures, pedicures, massages, facials or body treatments.

Our Grand Opening Chelsea Summer Garden Party

Despite thunder, torrential rain and an over active fire alarm we had a fabulous evening on Thursday at our Chelsea Summer Garden Party to celebrate the official launch of our newest salon and spa down the Kings Road.

Our slightly drenched guests arrived to an English country garden scene directly outside the salon and entered the party via a grass lawn complete with towering plant walls and bright summer flowers. Luckily help was at hand as our expert team styled and coiffed guests hair and offered complimentary beauty treatments and mini manicures.

Throughout the evening guests happily sipped on pomegranate and peach cocktails and tucked into delicious summer canapés and mini fruit tarts while listening to the stylish and elegant classical music of Blue Topaz, the female string trio consisting of two violins and a bass. Statuesque models served drinks and canapés while showcasing a selection of gorgeous dresses designed by ethical fashion labels Lowie and Fashion ComPassion and natural handmade shoes created by Meher Kakalia.

Our brand new “deep relax’ area was unveiled for the first time as guests were invited to relax and unwind with complimentary back and shoulder massages in a room punctuated with earthy hues, deep grey velvet sofas and ruby douppioni silk designer cushions. The subtle touches of East India complete with low lighting and giant gilded hurricane candles make this area the perfect luxurious escape from the hectic life of London.

A great night was had by all and we were delighted by all the positive reviews of the mini treatments and the lovely salon and spa atmosphere. Check out some of our photos below!

Working with ethical designers for our Chelsea launch party….

After seeing the gorgeous designs of ethical fashion designer, Ayesha Mustafa, we knew we wanted to work with her on our next big event!

Ayesha designs for ethical fashion house, Fashion ComPassion, which represents socially responsible luxury brands and is a company which works with social enterprises from the developing world in Asia, Africa and the Middle East helping to empower women by providing them with jobs, enhancing their creative skills and giving them each a percentage of the profits made.

We’re very excited to be teaming up with Ayesha and also with eco-friendly designer Bronwyn Lowenthal from Lowie and shoe designer Meher Kakalia for the official launch party of our Chelsea salon and spa this week. Throughout the party we’ll be showcasing a selection of luxurious and beautiful designs which all have a very strong ethical focus.

Bronwyn started her label Lowie back in 2002 and since then her designs have been worn by celebrities such as Luella Bartley, Zara Phillips, Erin O’Connor and Lily Cole. She uses organic cotton and recycled materials to create her range of vintage accessories and classic tea dresses. Meher Kakalia  is based in London and specialises in handmade natural shoes made using material from sustainable sources.

Earth Month 2011

Throughout April we were busy supporting a fantastic cause – Aveda Earth Month.

The focus for this year’s Earth Month was to help provide access to clean water for families and children around the world. Every 21 seconds a child dies from lack of clean water and 1.4 million children die every year from diarrhoea caused by poor sanitation.

Throughout April all our salon and spas took part in various fundraising activities from selling cupcakes and hand massages to raffles, car boot sales and a fabulous Alice in Wonderland tea party.  On the 4th April the GC team also took part in the 5 mile Walk for Water to highlight the struggle of women in developing countries who have to walk that distance every day to gain access to clean water for themselves and their families.
