The Detox – Day 8

Sunday, 13th Jan 2013 – Day 8 – The Detox

Almost there! I’ve realised how much I snack, or treat myself. I’m aware that I spend a lot of money on these treats, coffee’s and too often ready meals. So I’m spending money on getting fat. This week I’ve saved £pounds and lost the right sort of pounds and had a re-education on cooking and eating. Another bonus is, my skin seems really clear and moisturised.

Today we went off to the Science Museum and I worried how it would be, but a take away cup of warmed skimmed milk and it was easy. Whilst I watched others select their food from the cafe, I thought about my choice. Probably something highly calorific to be honest. I would have made excuses why I should eat it, and tucked in. I noticed a family having soup and bread – there was no mistake, they were all slim. I saw a largish family having pizza, chips, pies, chips, fizzy drinks…that would have been me normally I think. I then noticed a lovely older couple having a pot of tea, and they had bought their own sandwiches. Next time I would bring my own healthy food or have soup!

I wore my jeans today that I had grown out of…. but I was back in them –  just. So it was a reminder that though I’ve lost a lot of weight and inches, I still have a away to go. On Tuesday I’m not going to go back to old ways, but keep up part of the Clean 9 routine. I am thinking of having one treat a week, rather than a day, keeping up the aloe of course, drinking more water than I normally do and drinking the shake as a meal replacement with added fruit.

I can’t promise that I won’t drink coffee, but I will endeavour to drink a lot less!

Tonights dinner wasn’t great. I got the thumbs down from hubby, but you live and learn. Tonight was stir fried pork strips, with garlic, ginger and teriyaki sauce served with stir fry veggies (mistake using butternut squash), raw spinach and a little steamed rice.

So tomorrow is Day 9 and I’m really looking forward to crossing that line with my halo in tact!

The Detox – Day 7

Saturday, 12th Jan 2013 – Day 7 – The Detox

Another freezing day and normally I love sitting down Saturday morning and enjoying my latte… Oh dear. Lucky for me another hectic day… My daughter Chloe has ballet at 9.30am and then my middle son Max plays in Little League. Normally Chloe and I stay at home, however with his big blue eyes and saddest little boy face he pleaded that I come along to watch him. You just can’t say no.
I get back from picking Chloe up from ballet and my husband who is meant to be in charge of getting Max off to football is sitting there with a Coffee and not ready. They have 10mins before they have to leave, and Max is not dressed either, no water bottle, nothing done. Yes, I’m grumpy again, as I have found it quite hard to concentrate and I would have preferred a nice morning with a hot cup of herbal tea, instead I end up doing my best impression of a barking headless chicken! Why do men get themselves ready and no one else?!
I forgot to tell you about my measurements on day four.
                            Day 1                          Day 4
Hip                      111cm                           104cm
Waist                  107cm                           92cm
Thigh                  69cm                             64cm
Chest                 101cm                            100cm (thank heavens, I can’t afford to loose  too much in this area)
Arm                     38cm                              33cm
So on day four I’d lost 33cm! Amazing.
For dinner I wanted something spicy so I made a weight watchers sag curry with a little rice. No yogurt, chutney, breads, but still super yummy. Again I miss my glass of ‘sanity’ (well I have three kids!) but I’ve survived and day 10 is approaching. Actually I’m not going to have a drink day 10, but wait, because on the 17th it’s my 15th wedding anniversary, and I really think I will want/ need a drink!
It doesn’t look great – but it was super tasty!

The Detox – Day 6

Friday, 11th Jan 2013 – Day 6 – The Detox

A warm shake to start the day, just what I needed after four hours sleep. My husband had a boys night out and came home smelling of curry and complaining that his meal wasn’t great… oh my heart bleeds. Why do they want to regale all their stories at 1am?

Today I was hectic and so I missed out on my morning exercise. I was feeling quite tired by lunch and a little grumpy…I thought that with the running around with the kids will be the same, but I know it’s not.

Friday is play day and so I collected my three cherubs with their three friends from school and back to our house we all went. The usual chaos ensued. Friday is Fish and chips night, very traditional. Normally I would help them eat their dinner, no not feed them, help them eat it! It was very hard to resist and I probably sound mad, but I was constantly talking to myself (in my head of course). “Don’t eat the food” “If you start, you won’t stop” “If you start you would have ruined the last 5 days” “You aren’t really hungry” and so on..

The other thing about Friday’s is I do enjoy making it to the end of the week and celebrating that I’ve managed to parent and work. I’ve fed the family, they went to school, no big disasters (well if there were I’d have a few more glasses) and to start the weekend. Tonight – ooo another mug of herbal tea…

I do know that once I start to drink, I normally pick, and not at salad. It’s so easy to see all the excess calories I consume! So after having iron will, I followed it up with a very healthy dinner. I wanted a jacket potato with butter, cheese, sweetcorn…. what I had was salad made with baby spinach, jacket potato filled with tuna, sweetcorn and lemon juice.

Dessert or pudding tonight was delicious – some blueberries!

The Detox – Day 5

Thursday, 10th Jan 2013 – Day 5 – The Detox

Today was freezing! Between my fingers being numb and my constant thoughts of food – it was a tough day. I had just settled into my diet, so why? I think it was the cold, but it didn’t help at work someone having steamed dumplings (a favourite), in front of me, then I get home and my son having a luscious burger! Today was a ‘diet hump’ day.

But how did I cope – well when I was asked, I replied “The image of my big fat jelly belly!” That stopped the conversation, but saying it out loud made it clearer to me.

Today for my exercise I enjoyed Pilates. People are under the assumption it is a lot of breathing and slow easy movements. How wrong can you be. You can burn as many calories as some gym classes, tone your body and is necessary for me, due to arthritis and hyper mobility. Pilates is a great combination along with this detox.

It is really important now that I drink lots of water, as now is the time that I will be metabolising fats, and I want them outa here! Flush them away and good riddance too. I am quite thirsty, so obviously my body is aware of what is happening.

A tip that I didn’t follow was the shake can be heated! I must do tomorrow with the freezing weather. Maybe grate some nutmeg on top… Another idea will be to make some vegetable soups, extremely low in calories, full of goodness and filling. Tonight though I stuck to my steamed meal. I was in a hurry and steaming is so quick and so easy!

First step for my dinner tonight is to marinate my chicken with a little soya, place in steam basket and away it goes. Easy.

Next chop up veggies, and into second steam basket. Give chicken 10mins head start and then put veggies on top of the chicken .

Take chicken off and leave it to rest on plate, put rice noodles in basket and steam with the veggies. They only take 2mins at the most. Take off and toss them together with some soya sauce. If I had some chilli sauce without so much sugar, I would have used that. I had never looked at how many calories that stuff has! It should be called sugar and chilli sauce!

Lastly, place portion on my plate – not too many carbohydrates and plenty of veggies. I do not steam the spinach, as it wilts nicely when mixed with the hot noodles and veggies, adding a nice crunch.

Last step – eat my dinner slowly, savour my meal. I now feel a lot warmer and settled at the end of the day. I am over my diet hump, and ready for Day 6!

The Detox – Day 4

Wednesday, 9th Jan 2013 – Day 4 – The Detox

I’ve passed the first hurdle and I feel I’ve settled into a reasonably ‘normal’ way of eating. I feel that this could be manageable for every day life. I’ve also noticed how often I snack, pick and have a small treat… and it’s alarming. No wonder I put on so much weight over the years. It creeps up slowly over time. Clothing gets a little tighter, I make excuses…

THREE STONE later and I’m a bit… older. I’ve been felling unhappy about my image, uncomfortable in my own skin. I’ve also got a lovely wardrobe sitting there ready for the skinny person inside of me.

Tonight for my Kings supper, steamed salmon, rice and vegetables. Delicious. Normally I stir fry the veggies, but tonight I steamed them and then tossed them in a bowl with soya sauce.

Dessert – or pudding, a big glass of Aloe and face mask whilst I read my book in bed. To me that is luxury. I just hope my halo doesn’t fall off in bed….

The Detox – Day 3

Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 – Day 3 – The Detox

Third Day and I woke up excited  - food tonight! Day three you have the shake for breakfast and lunch – so today is an abundance of food! I bounced through the day and when my colleagues were having lunch I didn’t feel hungry or envious (well only a little), but the thing is, I didn’t feel hungry or tempted.

But hey the exciting news I almost forgot to tell you – I weighed in and ….. I lost 6 pounds or almost 3kgs! It has really inspired me to work really hard at making the most of the next 7 days.

I was tested this evening though. First I took the children to Sports Direct….WHY!? – after 1hr 30mins or 12hrs…. I left there with one pair of shoes that I didn’t mean to buy and left with another child screaming that I hadn’t bought his intended shoes and a desire for a large glass of wine!

For dinner…. Oooo what to have… I brushed Teriyaki sauce over a chicken breast and then steamed it, a jacket potato and mixed salad…. OMG it was delicious!

As I’ve been sooo good, I’m feeling that a really good massage is in order… it will help me physically and I think mentally, and maybe  a pedicure for good measure, every girl needs a bit of pampering!

Bring on Day Four!

The Detox – Day 2

Monday, 7th Jan 2013 – Day 2 – The Detox

I woke up feeling absolutely fine; however after an hour of getting the children off to school, I was starting to feel quite weak and tired. I drank my Aloe and went for a walk, followed by some lovely house work. By 11am I was feeling energised and after my mid morning snack of Bee Pollen and a cup of herbal Tea I settled down to work.  I am not weighing myself today; I think it is best to wait till tomorrow, Day three.

I worked through ‘lunch’ where I would normally have had two lattes (wow, that’s a £6 saving) as well as a sandwich or baguette – more money and more pounds saved! I quite like the shake and think after my clean 9 I could have this as a lunch substitute with a banana or other fruit added.

Though I’m hungry, when I think about it, I am not starving or feel faint.  If I do feel tired, I’ve found getting active gives me new energy.

Tonight my dearest husband offered to cook dinner for the kids – except – ‘Mel, how do I do xxxx and what do I do next’… at least he tried.  Last time I did the detox I cooked him a Sunday roast which he ate in front of me and complained he’d eaten too much! When I regaled the story to his mother, her only comment was ‘What sort of potatoes did you serve with it’…OMG she was serious!!!

So I’m pretty proud of my will power and I have survived!  I am looking forward to Day 3 so I can weigh myself, be rewarded and have a meal!

The Detox – Day 1

Melissa Harris, Forever Living

Saturday night, 5th Jan 2013 – Preparation for Detox

I weighed myself, took my measurements and enjoyed my Sunday Roast….
Weighing in at a hefty 14St 1lb..or 89.9kg… ouch!

Hips 111cm
Waist 107cm
Thigh 69cm
Chest 101cm
Arm 38cm

Sunday, 6th Jan 2013 – Day 1 – The Detox

I am well and truly mentally ready for what is to come ahead of me, and I’m looking forward to it, especially after seeing how much I weigh and my measurements, not to mention the horrible photos….

To start my day I have my Garcinia with a cup of herbal tea.  After 30mins I drink my aloe and feel fine. Normally I would have had a large soya latte by now…

A short interlude of tiger taming – three kids at home, end of school holidays… they REALLY, REALLY need to go back to school!! I then go for a brisk walk and feel pretty virtuous.

Obviously others thought the same as me and have taken their kids to Clarks for school shoes, so after waiting for 30mins…. with two ‘bored’ boys we get our shoes and run home. Then I make up my shake and aloe drink for lunch and head off to the O2 with my booklet, drinks, Bee Pollen and Garcinia.  I miss my coffee and by now I would have spent £4 on midmorning coffee and biscuit…instead on the train I chew the Bee Pollen which gives me a boost.

Lunch time approaches and I do not feel hungry, but watching others eat isn’t easy…again 30mins before my Aloe I have the Garcinia and then the shake and Bee Pollen. I feel quite full and energised. I can feel my headache approaching and so I take a paracetamol.  I find that I am drinking more water than I normally do, which is great.  So where I would have bought snacks or nicked the kids sweets, I sit feeling proud of my inner strength.

So after a full afternoon I come home to make the kids dinner.  It isn’t too bad but I have to remember not pick at their leftovers.  Instead I busy myself with other chores.

After my Sunday night dinner – Garcinia, Bee Pollen and Aloe I retire for a bath.  I haven’t had one in over a year and so I really enjoy the luxury of quiet time, relaxing in the bath without the little people in my life yelling for me.  Bliss! I retire to bed with my Aloe and book.

So I have survived day one and I feel fine.  It’s not a piece of cake… excuse the reference, but I feel fine and I’m looking forward to my prize – losing some of my jelly belly!
