My First Ever Facial

As a 20-year-old who doesn’t spend huge amounts of time thinking about skin damage and has grown into the habit of covering up my skin with too much makeup, a facial was something that had never really crossed my mind.

However, the new Aveda Tulasara facial wasn’t just any facial. Because I had never had a facial before I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but what I experienced was definitely not what I had imagined – in the best possible way.

The session began with my therapists, Hannah and Leah, performing a full body consultation to address any concerns with e.g. skin redness or dryness, sore eyes or even muscle aches. This was certainly something I had not been expecting as it was far above what I thought a regular facial would be. From this, they determined that my eyes were sore and dehydrated and that the skin on my face was sensitive and prone to dryness with blemishes when stressed.

My therapists tailored the remedies they would use to my skin’s specific needs and chose the ‘Bright’ Tulasara Concentrate in order to lift and hydrate my skin and make it more radiant. Throughout the whole facial I felt more relaxed than I had done in a long time. The unique and exciting ritual of dry brushing that is specially used in the Tulasara facials was particularly refreshing, with two varying rhythms; one designed for effective exfoliation and one for to calm the skin down again through relaxation.

In all honesty before this facial I was slightly wary of how effective a facial could actually be, but I can also honestly say I have been completely converted! I truly felt as though I hadn’t taken my makeup off properly in forever, as I had always used makeup to cover up my skin as much as possible due to lack of confidence in the way my skin looked. After my Tulasara facial, my skin was glowing and soft to the touch for over a week and has given me the confidence to cut back on my makeup considerably.

My first facial experience with the Tulasara products didn’t just leave me feeling relaxed and refreshed, it completely changed the way I felt towards my skin from negative to positive.

I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Beauty beck and call

Summer image for blog

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have some ‘beauty beck and call’??!

A team to prepare you for your upcoming holiday… a scrub, spray tan, polished nails so that when you step off that plane you’re absolutely fabulous head to toe!

However, the reality is, especially if you have children, is that you leave it all to the last minute and hope that there is a spa on the ‘other side’.  And of course when you arrive there’s no time for haircuts or pampering, the kids want to hit the beach and your husband discovers the magic of a siesta after having a ‘welcome drink/s on arrival!’.

Your hair is lucky to get a brush in between ‘pool side updo’s’ and you end up hiding your toes under towels so the beautifully manicured beach holiday makers don’t see them! Eeek.

But not this year, follow this #summer checklist and take action!

Book in a Signature pedicure to ensure your feet are smooth and nourished and your toes shine with the coolest of @Essie summer colours (for gorgeous blues check out ‘loot the booty’ or ‘viva Antigua!’ and pack your sexiest wedges to show them off).

Fit in a haircut so that when you arrive at that sunny destination your hair will behave and embrace those beachy waves with just a bit of be curly curl enhancer.

Get your eyebrows tinted, waxed and shaped with Becky aka ‘Becky brows’ (based in Wimbledon) or GC’s other brow specialists so that no beach time is wasted creating the perfect brow.

And if there’s time, the new Beautifying Cellulite treatment is the most effective way to firm your bum and thighs and smooth cellulite so you can ‘dare to bare’ in your new swimwear.

And finally, stock up on your favourite Aveda essentials for the summer. From hair treatments to sun protectors, we have a wide range to get you holiday ready.

Friday, 1st July saw a group of influential local women getting together for the ultimate, indulgent networking event. Rewarding on many levels (you’ll have a lovely set of on-trend nails, salon-beautiful hair and a mind brimming with new business ideas all in a couple of hours) this is definitely the way forward for busy mum’s trying to fit everything into their increasingly hectic lives.

Local entrepreneur, Social Media whizz and mum to three under 7, Sandra Nardi, hosted a party before an outing to THE top sporting event of summer, The Wimbledon Championships. She gathered a group of like-minded ladies and wisely requested the services of Gina Conway Prive, our fabulous at home service. We duly arrived with our top team ready and able to offer red carpet ready hair, make up and nails, with a stress relieving massage available for those who needed a little time to shut off from the world and collect their thoughts.

There was an air of naughtiness and elation as the Prive team worked their magic and the ladies shared top tips on anything from what was trending on social media to teaching your child to swim in a hot tub! Our staff are talented and discreet, the perfect combination for making people feel relaxed and good about themselves.

Fancy hosting a party yourself? We can put together a bespoke plan for your special occasion, please contact us on 020 8234 6899 with your requirements.

Mums like flowers but they also like time to smell the flowers

I’m a mum.  And when I get together with other Mum friends we often talk about how busy we are and how there is very little downtime in our lives.  We seem to be always switched on, with mobile phones or iPad in hand while replying to the demands of our children, emptying dishwashers, buying groceries, making meals, folding laundry and fitting in all the after school & weekend activities that help to keep our children sporty, creative and entertained.  Phew!

Thankfully Mother’s day on its way again and we all will hopefully be appreciated or thanked for all our hard work and in turn, we will thank our Mums, mother-in-law’s and even our sisters or close friends for being there to add some fun, laughter and support.

So as I said before, a bouquet of spring flowers is nice to look at but what better way to thank us busy Mums than with a little gift of spa that encourages us to relax, breathe and enjoy the healing effects of nature.

Let’s pass this on…

Multi-tasking and anti-aging Hero product

Since moving to the city I have found a rapid change in my complexion. Although London is an amazing place to live the pollution is also extremely high and this has an ageing affect on skin. Recently I read that tiny particles and toxic gases emitted mainly by diesel vehicles attack the skin, causing the formation of pigment spots and wrinkles normally associated with old age.  This is a scary thought…

So this brings me the importance of skin protection.  I have found an incredible product by Murad, called Invisiblur which is not only a treatment but an SPF shield and a primer all in one! Being a Beauty Therapist myself and dealing with skin concerns daily, I have discovered that some clients tend to combine a mixture of serums and moisturisers with an occasional dab of SPF as an after thought. Most either don’t understand the point of an SPF (let’s face it ‘London we love you’ but you are not the sunniest place on the planet) or they don’t like the heavy oily texture that serums and SPF moisturises commonly contain.

Come rain or shine, our skin is exposed to harmful UV Rays and pollution and if it’s not protected we see the dreaded effects of ageing and congestion.

If there was one hero product I would choose (and I love products), Invisiblur would have to be it. It contains an SPF 30 but in the lightest, hydrating texture which I think is pretty impressive. It’s so silky and the light coverage makes it a great primer for those more natural (no make-up) days or even better it’s easy to mix with your foundation to give you that perfect flawless finish.

I honestly haven’t had one client that has given me bad feedback about this product and their skin looks more even, radiant and hydrated because of it. And as for myself. Well I can finally say I’m not letting London and its pollution get the better of my skin. I’d recommend anyone to try this no matter what skin type you have!
